AHDRA
Season Opener
Gainsville, Florida
Feb 29-March 2, 2008
As Thursday was just a day to enter the track, Dean had some fun with the help of friends, Dana Smith and Kelly Housaman who brought snow from Wisconsin.  Maybe people got a chance to see real snow for the first time.

Recap of the Weekend
It was the first race of the season and the beautiful Florida sunshine was out with the temps in the 70's all weekend.  Poor Boys Racing would pull in on Wednesday night with a new rig.  Dean had gotten a new truck, 2008 Chevy Duramax Diesel with Banks Power Diesel Tuner and Stephanie had gotten a new 40ft  Rance Aluminum Trailer from fellow racer, Dan Hope of Nevada Auto Mall.  You can't even tell you are pulling that big thing down the road.

Over the winter, Dean and Dale Miller, fellow racer and sponsor, from  Miller Motors in Liberty Center, OH would spend the time and redo most all of the bike.  It proved to be a monster.  Dean and crew member, Jerry Johnston, would spend Friday Test-n-Tuning the bike.  They spent quite a bit of time making changes to the chassis and lots of wrenching in between rounds to get the bike dialed in.  It had never been down a track after it was redone and had only been put on a Dyno at Dyno Power owned my fellow racer, Mark Venia.

Friday, Besides Test-n-Tuning, Dean would also do one round of qualifying.
The 2008 All Harley Drag Racing Association (AHDRA) is officially under way now.  Dean would cut great lights and numbers to end the day on a great note.  Teammate, Larry Maynhart, would not arrive till later that night with the some of the crew, Uncle Tim, and Ed.  It would be a good evening of catching up with fellow racers and friends that you hadn't seen since November in Las Vegas.

Saturday, Larry would wake up and start wrenching on his bike to do some final tuning before going out and qualifying for the first time.  Dean would end up qualifying 6th in SE class, 4th in SS class, and 17th in SG.  Larry would qualify 27th in SE class and 14th in SS.  Also on Saturday night, the rest of the crew showed up, Dave and Bob Druschel

Sunday, Elimination Day,  In SE class (10.90 index), Larry would make it through first round but would face Kevin Winters in the second round and lose, leaving Kevin to advance on and race Dean.  Dean would prove that the Champion in SE class  is out to defend his title.  He would make it to the Quarter Finals with a .047 light, 11.00 1/4 mile, at 105.56mph against Kevin Winters .030 light, 11.011 1/4 mile, at 115.56 mph.  Dean would only lose by 0.006 of a second.

In Super Sport action (10.30 index), Dean would make it to the second round with a .034 light, 10.379 1/4 mile, at 109.55 mph but would lose against Gary Douglas's .001 light, 10.370 1/4 mile, at 113.00 mph.  Larry would go all the way to the Semi-Finals with a .033 light, and 10.467 1/4 mile against Sam Lowery's .108 light, and 10.388.

Super Gas (9.70 index) class would be a first for Dean to race.  With Dean's need for speed and his bike, a monster, definitely can run this number.  Dean would run a .131 light, 9.921 1/4 mile, at 133.04mph against Jeff Stevens's .302 light, 9.7351/4 mile at 130.96.  Dean would only lose by 0.015 seconds.

All in all, it proved to be a good weekend for Poor Boys Racing.org and Maynhart Racing of Team Miller Motors.  They both got some good points and have been able to get back on the track and do some racing.

Stay tuned as the next race for AHDRA happens on March 29-30 in Phoenix, AZ
Race hard, be safe, have fun, and oh yea.....go fast!
