What a great weekend!!!
After receiving the Runner-Up award in St. Louis (this was the first time Dean had gone to the finals and not won) he was determined to go all the way and win and also take over the points lead in the class.  We had a good trip down to Texas and got in town early and spent the night in the host hotel to get a good nights sleep.  I had to be to work Friday morning (I now work in the tower for the AHDRA doing the Live Qualifying and Elimination updates) and Dean was going to spend the day Testing and Tuning the bike to make sure everything was all set to race and it was.  We kicked back Friday night with some coctails and went around visiting with friends while we waited for Larry and Danette to fly into town.  We finally made it to bed about 3:00am and was glad that I woke up in time Saturday morning to make it to work in the tower by 8:00.  Dean on the other hand had a fat head and struggled a little with the tree during qualifying but managed to qualify 4th.    We went to bed early on Saturday to make sure we got enough rest for the big day on Sunday- the day that really counts.
The bike was flawless and so was Dean.  He was on a mission.  1st round in the morning he was ready to take everyone by storm.  It wasn't until the 3rd round against Bill Rowe Jr. till it was all on the line.  Bill Rowe Jr. was just one point ahead of Dean coming into the Texas race and was going to be his hardest competition he would have to face all day.  Dean cut a great light on Bill and got the win and also knew that he was going to now be the points leader in the class since Roberta Seaman (who was leading) had red light against Jeff Farnum the round right after Dean's.  Dean would end up meeting Jeff in the Finals (which it was Jeff's first time to the finals).  Dean cut a great light on Jeff and then ended up pushing Jeff out the door.  How exciting for us!!!!!  The team went out to dinner to celebrate our win before we headed back home and then finally hit the road.  We all know about Texas and the cops and you definitly don't want to get pulled over in Texas so I put it on cruise control (75 since the speed limit was 70 or so I thought).  Aparrently at night they have a different speed limit of 65.
Let me tell you, I got pulled over by the nicest cop in Texas.  He came to the window and asked for license and registration and as I got that stuff and handed it to him, he said, today is your lucky day, I am a Harley rider and do you know the speed limit is different at night?  I told him you now officer I had seen those sign and apologize we were caught up in the moment and is why we had the cruise control on.  Dean leaned over and told him it is my lucky day, I just won today and showed him his plaque.  We chatted with him a litltle about racing and I even gave him one of our business cards and on our way we went so we could be home to work on Tuesday morning.
We had been slowly creeping up to a win but finally got the first win of the year.  We would like to dedicate our win to Dale Miller (whose birthday it was) and also to Aunt Donna (McConnell Racing) who we will all miss very much.

Thanks,
Stephanie
